Platinum Studios partners with Bango for mobile download technology

Mobile site delivers enhanced revenue stream to comic creators

Platinum Studios, Inc., an entertainment media company that controls the world’s largest independent library of comic book characters, today announced it is using Bango’s direct-to-consumer technology to power Platinum Studio Mobile (www.platinumstudiosmobile.com), a mobile website featuring images, sounds, wallpaper and more mobile content from Platinum’s library and from the web’s #1 web comics community, www.DrunkDuck.com.

By working with Bango, a leader in the mobile Web ecosystem, consumers on any mobile network, anywhere in the world can browse Platinum Studio content at their leisure and make a purchase via their phone bill, by credit card or PayPal.

Platinum Studios’ library of content includes comics from Awesome Comics, France’s Hexagon Comics, Italy’s Bonelli Comics, Crisis Comics, plus other popular independent comic books such as “Blood Nation”, “Cowboys & Aliens” and the recently introduced KISS Comics Group debut comic, “KISS 4K: Legends Never Die”, based on the mythology surrounding legendary rock band KISS.

Platinum Studios, which has championed the comic creator for over a decade, invested in a mobile web presence because it offers comic creators new revenue opportunities outside traditional print publishing.

“With Platinum Studios diverse library of comic book characters from all over the world, we needed to be able to deliver our content everywhere our consumers are and a technology provider which understood the worldwide mobile network complexity – we found both in Bango”, said Howard Brodwin, head of Platinum Studios’ digital publishing group. “Analysts predict that by 2008 there will be 3.2 billion mobile users around the world with 1.2 billion of them having access to the internet — by using Bango’s simplified technology, millions of comic book fans with a mobile phone will have the opportunity to discover, connect and download their favorite comic characters via the mobile Web.”

“As more and more people across the globe use their mobile phone to access the mobile Web, it creates new opportunities and sources of revenue for companies like Platinum Studios,” said Ray Anderson, CEO of Bango. “Bango is becoming the partner of choice for companies looking to easily move to mobile.”

Using Bango Web Trigger technology, comic fans can easily buy image and sound downloads from Platinum Studios Mobile (www.platinumstudiosmobile.com) in one seamless step from anywhere in the world.
